Staging Your Bedroom: Why and How It's Important to Your Success in Selling Your Home

Hi! I'm Bridget. I'm a Home Stager and Interior Decorator based in South Florida, and I often get asked by both Real Estate agents and Home Sellers, "Is staging my primary suite - aka Master Bedroom - necessary?" Absolutely! A bedroom, when staged correctly, can feel like a peaceful retreat. In fact, the primary bedroom was found to be the second most important space for home-buyers. How does your bedroom measure up?

Here are a few quick tips to help you take your bedroom from drab to Fab!

  1. De-clutter. Less is more. Buyers want to see your space, not your personal items. Remove all those personal items from the nightstands and dresser.

  2. Use nice bedding and accent pillows. Neutral-colored bedding will give your bedroom a more elevated look and feel. Let's go for the hotel spa vibe. Fluffing bedding along with a nice throw will always look great, and your photos will look amazing.

  3. “Neutral” any strong paint colors. Which is to say, replace them with a nice neutral tone. I love using light creams, off-white and light grey colors for the walls. They are still neutral, but have some color. Use colors that reflect calmness.

  4. We can’t forget some final finishes like accent pillows for the bed and artwork, too. These details will allow you to add some color and texture to the space. You can mix textures and colors with the accent pillows. These accent pillows should be chosen to work nicely with the artwork so that they complement each other.

  5. Let's now add two pretty lamps to complement the furniture. Purchase lamps that are size-appropriate. If you have large-scaled furniture, then don’t buy small lamps. A great standard height lamp would be 28"-32".

  6. Lastly, pay attention to those accessories that add to the finished look of the room. Never over-accessorize the furniture. Still, items like small plants, vases, and decorative boxes are great pieces that bring warmth and beauty to the room.

Just in case you were curious and wanted to know what the first important room is to buyers, it's the kitchen. We can talk about that in an upcoming blog.

Can you believe that this is the same Master Bedroom?  Well it is.  What did we do to change the look and feel of this room?  Several creative things were done.

1.  If you want to make an immediate change to any space, change the wall color.  Paint is your best friend when Staging or Decorating a room.  This burgundy color was too strong and dark for the room.  When selling your home, stick with neutral colors to visually enlarge the space.  We used Sherwin Williams #6071 Popular Grey to lighten the space, and what a difference the new color made.

2.  You may have noticed that we changed the orientation of the furniture.  Furniture placement is important when Staging your home.  Buyers want to see space, and when you walk into the Master Bedroom, the positioning of the bed will be important to how the room will show.  Re-position furniture pieces so it makes sense to the floor plan.

3.  This room has lovely hardwood floors, but along with the dark wood furniture we needed something to breakup the dark tones on top of each other and create a more cozy feel within the space.  We added a simple cream shag rug.  It's always good to keep rooms light & bright.  Rug:  Lowes

4.  Bedding makes the bed.  It's important to invest in a nice comforter, quilt or duvet set for your bed along with some accent pillows for a pop of color.  Bedding & Accent Pillows:  SteinMart & HomeGoods  Lamps:  Kirklands
